Reunion Plans

Now that spring is upon us it's time to be thinking ahead and making definite plans and reservations. At this point we've had positive responses from the following people: Dave & Rosie, Bruce & Ellen, Sarah, Viv & Ken, Diana & Ed & sons, Mary & Peter, Peter & Betsy & Henry & Clara, Liz & Van. Others have expressed interest and we hope many more will also be able to join us.

Remember: Reservations need to be made at least 30 days prior to the reunion, or by June 30. The rooms will no longer be held for us after that date.

A note on transportation: Those of you flying to O'Hare Airport may want to coordinate your flight schedules so that you can share transportation to Starved Rock. There is a company called One Sweet Dream which offers limousine, SUV, or van service from O'Hare and the price varies according to the size of the group. (www.1SweetDream,com) Utica is on Interstate 80, 80 miles west of Chicago. You might also consider sharing car rental from the airport.

There are new mystery photos in the sidebar. Who can identify the military man? We currently have a debate. Peter says it is not him because he never had that much leather on his uniform. Bruce seems sure it is not him. Dave? Could it be you?
Also- the "tyke" photo posted earlier was never identified. Surely someone knows who this adorable child is. Mary knows, but she's not telling!

Mary and Peter recently had a mini Herr Reunion in Tucson with Pat, Joy and Brooke. You can tell by the photo that a good time was had by all! Brooke topped off the evening with a much appreciated demonstration of her dancing skills.

Another New Mystery Photo

Here's a real mystery photo for you! Can you identify it?
Okay, okay....we won't keep you in suspense...
Here's the note that came along with the photo:
"Guillo and Rachel are happy to let everyone know (hopefully you already heard!) that we are expecting a baby BOY on Jun 26 of this year! We are still hoping to make the reunion, and introduce Eve Cecile and the youngest Herr Cintron to the rest of the family."

And a few other pictures from their life in Uganda. They recently had a visit from Ellen and Bruce. Here's what Rachel had to say:
"Here are a few of our latest - from our boat trip on Lake Victoria and our sailing club, and a safari critter from the trip to Murhcison falls. And one gratuitous, cute Eve pic, with her "baby" in a sling!"

Mystery Photos Identified!

Dave was the first to identify the last mystery photo with this reply:
"That photo looks like uncle Bud and aunt LeAnn to me. Could it be?"

Vivian also wrote in quickly with this detailed i.d.:
"Okay the Mystery photo is Leanne (or Leanna) Herr and Bud (Frances or
Francis)Herr during the first Great Depression. I have a copy of the photo.
It was taken on one of our trips to Ohio. He was Dad (Ross) Herr's youngest
brother and farmed the "home farm" at this time. She was a wonderful cook
and we always enjoyed visiting them. I still remember a treat of homemade
ice cream and homemade chocolate syrup."

We also received this message from Diana:
"Thanks for including that 25 year-old wedding picture on the blog! Sometimes it seems like just yesterday and other times it seems like a very long time ago, especially when I see how young everyone looks! Looking forward to the family gathering this summer."

January 2009 Update!

Happy New Year to all! We hope you are all still planning to make the Herr reunion part of the your 2009 activities.

A few updates for everyone:

-Clara Jean Herr just celebrated her first birthday. Hers is the only Herr birthday in January! She had a cowgirl themed party and quite enjoyed her angel food cake. Since her mom and Grandma do the blog, we thought it was our prerogative to post two photos:
-We know that Diana and Ed celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 16th of 2008. Their family is looking forward to attending the July reunion - here's a photo of that memorable day way back in 1983. For those with a keen eye, you'll see a young Ms. Liz Herr in the below photo. It should be noted that Liz will be a bride herself in September of this year! See if you can keep your eyes away from Bruce's stylish tie. Yikes. -Another reminder for all that we are currently gathering memorabilia (a.k.a. Mary and Peter have been cleaning out their basement) to be displayed at the reunion - so plan to bring whatever you think would be fun and/or embarrassing to share.

-Lastly, soon it will be time to begin making reservations at the Starved Rock Lodge - we'll keep you updated when more information is available.

Hi Mary,

Even if I didn't recognize the beautiful Herr-Cardillo girls, Brooke the
Dancer, Starr the Environmentalist and Hope the Drummer, the University of
Arizona Wildcats Mascot in the background is a dead giveaway for any Tucson
resident.

Thank you for this website! It's a great way to get us excited about this
summer (and to remember to keep our calendars free).
